The Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race and others.

I buy a magazine called ‘ Country Kitchen’ once a month. Its good old fashioned, locally sourced fare and has some interesting articles. When I’m done my mum gets it and we do a swap with any she has bought. This aside, a very unusual article appeared about eccentric cooking practices and festivities this issue. I read with considerable interest, bizarre goings on appeal to my sense of humour.

We have the christmas pudding race in Covent Garden, hare pie scramble and bottle kicking in Leicestershire, stilton cheese rolling in Cambridgeshire, the world nettle eating championships in Dorset and my favourite is the Yorkshire pudding boat race.

Apparently giant Yorkshire puddings are coated in several layers of yacht varnish to stop them going soggy and then sailed across a pond belonging to Bob in Brawby, North Yorshire while someone recites poetry! Barking!!

Anyway, here’s the link www.theshed.co.uk/boatrace.html

  1. Come on, one post a month is hardly likely to win you over regular readers! Get on with it.

  2. Come, time for an update. No excuses!
